Should You Donate? By: Shelby Casey What if you were told that you could save multiple lives today with a small gesture, would you do it? Of course you would! Donating to a charity is a simple way to do this. There are many different charities in the world, but you should donate to Best Friends. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and it is the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Thirty years ago, Best Friend Animal Sanctuary was founded when a group of people had a vision to create a sanctuary for abandoned and abused animals. The main co-founders include: Francis Battista, Judah Battista, Silva Battista, Gregory Castle, Gabriel DePeyer, Jana DePeyer, Steven Hirano, Faith Maloney, Anne Mejia, and Cyrus Mejia. With very little money and no master plan, they set out to create something very ambitious. One of their major goals was to create a no-kill animal sanctuary, but unfortunately they didn’t have much of a voice until their sanctuary grew larger. They didn’t want to become famous or wealthy, but do the right thing for creatures who could not speak or act for themselves. To take the next step, in 1984, the founders made a promise to one another and the animals they cares for, that they would build a sanctuary in Southern Utah. Du, De La, Des Expressing Quantities in French

Expressing quantities is quite an important part of daily conversation. In French, the key to understanding how to express quantity is a question of the specification of quantity: a  precise quantity, or a vague one. Most of the times, you wont be able to translate word-for-word from English, so you need to understand the logic to choosing the correct word in French. Quantities in French There are several ways to express quantities in French:Numbers:  The most precise way to express a quantityExpressions of quantity:  A little bit of, or many, or half; these can be more or less preciseAn  adjective of quantity: Aucun (none) or plusieurs (several)An indefinite article: A, anA  partitive article: Some, any Unspecified Singular Quantity: Du, de La, de L’– Unspecified quantities represent the notion of â€Å"some† in English, but we don’t always use the word â€Å"some.† When you are talking about a portion of one item (food, like some bread), or something that cannot be quantified (quality, like some patience), use what the French call a partitive article. du ( masculine word)de la ( feminine word)de l’ – (followed by a vowel) Examples: Je voudrais de l’eau, s’il vous plait  (some water—maybe a glass, or maybe a bottle)Le professeur a de la patience  (patience—you are not saying how much patience the teacher has, just that he/she has some)Voici du gà ¢teau  (some of the cake; not the whole cake) In these examples, some applies to a singular item. Here is some cake, rather than some cakes, which we will study below. Here, we are talking about a portion of one item—a portion that is vague, not specific. The articles du, de la, and de l–  are called partitive articles in French. It is important to note that these articles are often used after the verbs vouloir (â€Å"Je voudrais des chaussures noires†) or avoir (â€Å"J’ai des chats†) and with food (we use these all the time with food, so its a good topic for practice). More Than One, but Unspecified Plural Quantity: Des To describe an unspecified plural quantity, use â€Å"des† (both feminine and masculine), which  tells you there is more than one item, but it is a vague plural quantity (it could be 2, could be 10,000 or more). This â€Å"des† usually applies to whole items, that you could count, but decided not to. Examples: J’ai des Euros  (more than one, but I am not telling exactly how many)Je vais acheter des pommes  (I’m going to buy apples. In English, we’d probably won’t use any words before apples. Maybe some, but in French, you need to use â€Å"des†)Elle a des amis formidables (she has [some] great friends) In English, the word â€Å"some† is used for unspecified quantity (I would like some milk) but also as a derogative adjective (he went home with some girl). In French, you would never say â€Å"il est rentrà © chez lui avec de la fille,† as he didn’t go home with an unspecified quantity of a girl. So be careful, word-for-word translation doesn’t always work! The same thing goes for the example, â€Å"elle a des amis formidables.† In English, if you say â€Å"she has some great friends,† you’d be strongly implying that her other friends are not so great. In French, we use an article where, in English, you’d probably use nothing: â€Å"she has great friends†.   Some food items are usually referred to as singular, although they are really plural. Like rice. There are many grains of rice, but it’s rare that you are counting them one by one. Thus, rice is considered a single ingredient, expressed using the singular masculine, â€Å"le riz†. If you need to count each grain, then you’d use the expression, â€Å"grain de riz† – Il y a 3 grains de riz sur la table (there are 3 grains of rice on the table). But, more often, you’d say something like â€Å"j’achà ¨te du riz† ( I am buying [some] rice).

Should you be judge for being born as a multiracial and biracial individual? which background do you represent the most, if you’re White, Asian, Latino/Latina, African american. Which side would you choose? if you are a mix child, why can’t you be proud of both or even the other ethnicity background that you have? Those were the questions that I’ve had while reading through the article of Susan Saulny on the topic of being a mix child. I am Dominican and Puerto Rican with some Spaniard in as well, so I’m somewhat a mix child, but I am a proud Latino and that is the side that I chose even though I have different Latino in me, I am still considered a Latino man. I’m 22 years old and in the next 5 or 6 years, I do see myself having several children and I have a sure sense that they will be a mix of non-Latino/Latina. My current girlfriend is Chinese and the more that I get to know her well, I can see her in being the mother of my children and I will be the 2nd person in my family to infuse a different ethnicity into our family tree. My older brother married to woman who is half Dominican and Libyan and he loves her so much that they are now having a 2nd baby. I have nothing against the Latina women, but since I am free to choose who I want to love and have a family, I want to have different options. My mother at first wanted me to be with just a Dominican or someone who has light skin features. Now she has changed her mind and accepted that I am the one who choose the woman to

Uniforms give a sense of belonging and preventdress code problems. School uniforms are also very cost effective. Not only would it help kids fit in but it would help kids concentrate onSchools have reported problems with gang colors and dress codes. Therehave also been reports of problems of kids being beat up for there clothes. Thesekids were beat up because they were either wearing a certain color or they werebeing robbed of their expensive clothes. Uniforms would prevent in appropriatedress prevent gang color problems and thefts of clothing. Today’s designer clothes are very expensive. A pair of jeans for examplecan cost 70 to over a hundred dollars. According to 3 sets of school uniformscost not more than 70 dollars. This 70 dollars includes 3 dress shirts and 3 pairs ofpants for the cost of one pair of designer jeans. Some states even have statefunding for uniforms this could bring the cost down to nothing. Inconclusion school uniforms are cost effective and prevent many problemsschools shouldn’t have to deal with.
